Praetorian Guard
The
Noble Guard, as a whole – is a defensive unit of Paladins and Warriors that
protects the Clergy. All under the
umbrella of the Archbishop, from the Bishops to the various priests, fall under
its protection. While the Archbishop remains
the highest priority at all times – we are charged with the protection of all noncombative members of the Church.
The
Praetorian Guard is a division of the Noble Guard for those that wish to serve
in the protection of the Archbishop, however do not wish to be a member of the
guild Clergy of the Holy Light. Both the
Noble Guard and Praetorian Guard fall under the same leadership and are really
the same thing for all intents and purposes, except for some differences that
will be explained below. One should
fully read the Noble Guard Manual written by Caspius,
as that remains the standard and this document is intended to be supplemental,
not replace it. This is simply to
emphasize certain points and differences between the two.
Noble /
Praetorian Guards should be considered as equals. There are three commanding ranks in the
entire organization, as it shall remain unless it is necessary to add more due
to inflated numbers. There will be no unnecessary
power struggles, matters of vanity, or other such dramas. However, a more experienced member explaining
procedures to one who is less experienced is acceptable and encouraged.
There is
a uniform. A Praetorian Guard wears the
same uniform as a Noble Guard. Refer to
section II.3 of this document.
Praetorian Guards are only required to wear this uniform while they are
on duty actively guarding either a ceremony, individual, or any other task they
are assigned. At any other time of RP,
whether it is personal or for your guild, it is not necessary. Any tabard you wish to wear,
is acceptable.
There
are rules of conduct and behavior, as Praetorian Guard is a division of the
Church and affiliated with the Clergy of the Holy
Light. Much of it is common sense and
will be expanded on as it proves necessary.
While on duty, no profanity should be used. This does not apply when off duty, to a
degree depending on the place and level of harshness. Obscene / inappropriate conversations while
in public are not allowed. It is not necessary to list every circumstance. You are considered a representative of our
Church and should conduct yourself as such.
If what you do while partying in the Blue Recluse gathers enough
attention that we hear about it in the Cathedral, it is a problem. Again, this is case by case.
The need
for availability will be taken on a case by case basis, and we will attempt to
reach the best happy medium where you can be active as a Praetorian Guard, as
well as in your own guild and personal RP.
We do need at least some kind of presence, but do not expect you to
dedicate all of your game time to this either.
Only
Paladins and Warriors, due to the fact that the uniform is plate, will be accepted. The job consists entirely of being around the
use of the Light, which makes it inappropriate for Death Knights. Rare exceptions to this rule will be
considered, but will not be likely.
Knighthood
is not required. While it is a
respectable title, there are so many different ways to obtain Knighthood (even
the Silver Hand is fragmented into different guilds under different players)
that it is not a reliable indicator of one’s ability to serve as a Praetorian
Guard. However, it is required that you serve
the Light as your religion.
Exceptional
health and combat ability is required.
Unless you are known or come with a solid reference, you will be tested
in a (RP roll) battle against a chosen opponent. With this said, there will be training, and
in time someone who is sub par may reach this
standard.
One who
wishes to be a Praetorian Guard will be given an interview. Expect to be questioned on these things, so
that we may decide if you will be a good fit for the organization.
1)
History.
2)
Criminal
record
3)
Military
record (if applicable)
4)
Loyalty
to the Archbishop, along with his subordinates.
5)
Ability
to follow orders without question or debate, especially during times of attack.
6)
How
your current affiliations (guild / etc) will impact
your ability to be a reasonably active Praetorian Guard.
7)
Any
other relevant questions may arise.
If
during the interview the candidate is deemed acceptable, they will be given an
oath; at which point they are considered official members of the Praetorian
Guard. After this, they will be expected
to obtain their uniform in a timely fashion.
It’s not necessary to get it before knowing you are in, to avoid the
risk of wasting time / gold.
The
roster for the Noble / Praetorian Guard will be made public. All members will be notified through their
preferred medium of communication (WoW mail, email,
skype, etc) immediately of any change, even if it is
as minor as one person coming or leaving.
This is to avoid miscommunication, and to keep everyone up to date.
This
manual will be adjusted as time and circumstances deem necessary. Like the roster, it is the responsibility of
the Commander to ensure all members are instantly notified should this
occur. Detailed communication is the key
to effective security.
All
events where Noble / Praetorian Guards are requested to be present will be
posted on the (WoW Calendar). All members are requested to select whether
they intend to go to these, so that we can try to keep an acceptable number of
Guards on duty by planning ahead, instead of scrambling at the last minute.
8/26/2016 – Sister Callistrate, Commander.
